How to get to Besançon

Besançon is located 400 km East of Paris, France, close to the Swiss border. There is no airport immediately nearby, but there is a TGV (high-speed train) station in the city center with direct and frequent TGVs from and to Paris. The central railway station of Besançon is “Besançon-Viotte”.

If you plan to travel by airplane, you might consider one of the following airports:

  • Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport, France: is 3 h 00 of TGV (high- speed train) from Besançon, either directly (a direct train is available from CDG to Besançon at 19.41, arriving 22.32 every day) or from Paris, station “Gare de Lyon” (every 2 hours). It is 4 h 00 hours away from Besançon by motorway.
  • Bâle-Mulhouse EuroAirport, France/Switzerland (take the “French” exit): is 1 h 30 away from Besançon by motorway, and 2h30 by shuttle + train. For more information, go to the airport’s website at: http://www.euroairport.com
  • Geneva International Airport, Switzerland (take the “Swiss” exit) : is 2 h 00 away from Besançon by the Swiss Geneva-Lausanne-Yverdon motorway then the French Vallorbe-Besançon highway, and 4 h 00 away by TGV (high-speed train) + local train. RER TRANSPORTATION (in Paris)
To go from Charles de Gaulle Airport (terminal 1 or 2) to Gare de Lyon (it takes 1 h 00), first use RER subway line B to “Chatelet-Les Halles” and then RER line A (same platform, opposite side) from “Chatelet-Les Halles” to “Gare de Lyon”.

RAILWAY TRANSPORTATION
There is a direct TGV (high-speed train) connection between Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport, Terminal 2,  and Besançon train station (“Besançon Viotte”) every day at 19h42, and from Besançon to Roissy Charles de Gaulle, Terminal 2, every day at 5h40 from Monday to Friday, and 6h52 on Saturday and Sunday (these TGVs are also direct from and to Lille; connection from and to Amsterdam, Brussels or London).
